NAMI Downtown
Detroit
National
Alliance on Mental Illness
NAMI Downtown Detroit
is a grassroots organization for families and consumers, which
offers information and support to individuals with mental illnesses
and their families, including education programs to help them manage
an illness and move toward recovery. We also work together at local,
state and national levels to overcome stigma and to achieve policies
and services that improve the lives of people with mental illnesses.
NAMI Downtown Detroit,
an affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, is
dedicated to the improvement of the quality of life for persons and
families who are affected by mental illness through support,
education, advocacy and research.
NAMI advocates
for loved ones to change and improve the mental health system so
that quality service will be available for persons suffering from
serious brain disorders.
NAMI Downtown Detroit
was organized in 1983 and is dedicated to involving families of
various cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
Mental illness does not discriminate, it can
strike anyone. Understanding mental illness
encourages people to get the help they need.
