NAMI Resources
Anyone can have a mental illness – a friend,
a family member or even you!
Our Mission is to improve the quality of
life for mentally ill individuals (Consumers) and families affected
by mental illness through our educational, advocacy, research and
support programs.
Education: Understanding mental
illness encourages people to seek help when they need it. Through
seminars, workshops and informational materials, NAMI Downtown
Detroit educates the public about mental illness and helps to remove
the secrecy and stigma surrounding the disease. Our educational
programs also help Consumers manage their illness and move toward
recovery.
Advocacy: NAMI Downtown Detroit
influences governmental and nongovernmental polices affecting
services for Consumers by advocating for Consumers at the local,
state, and national levels to ensure quality services are available
and provided.
Research: NAMI Downtown Detroit
conducts surveys, participates in studies, cooperates with and
serves as resource persons to university faculty and researchers.
Support: NAMI Downtown Detroit
provides Support Group Meetings and activities for family members,
Consumers and others. Persons who have experienced--or lived
with--serious mental illness find that a familiar face provides
safety and encouragement.
